The credentials behind the delivery work.

Two degrees, two professional certifications, and eighteen years of military schooling across two services, from turning wrenches on Army aircraft to commanding an EP-3 crew.

Degrees

Academic

Master of Science, Computer Software Engineering

South College · 2024 · 4.0 GPA · Summa Cum Laude

Completed on active duty while running delivery for a civilian engineering organization. It is why I can read the code my teams write, scope work honestly, and build the reporting infrastructure myself instead of filing a ticket for it.

Bachelor of Science, Communications & Military Science

Utah State University

Completed while serving, and the degree that qualified me for Navy Officer Candidate School and the path into naval aviation.

Military education

Eighteen years of schools, two services.

Both services put their leaders through formal schooling before they will let them lead, and the gate is the same either way: you do not get the next rank until you pass. This is that progression, enlisted through commissioned, alongside the technical and tactical qualifications.

United States Army 2007 to 2011

  • AH-64 Apache crew chief The enlisted trade I started in. Maintained and crewed Apache attack helicopters, rising to Sergeant.
  • Noncommissioned Officer leadership courses The Army does not let you lead soldiers on seniority. Formal schooling in small unit leadership, training management, and counseling comes first.
  • Airborne School Static-line parachute qualification.
  • Air Assault School Rotary-wing insertion operations, sling-load, rappel.
  • Pathfinder School Establishing and controlling helicopter landing zones and drop zones.

United States Navy 2011 to 2025

  • Officer Candidate School (OCS) Newport, Rhode Island. My commissioning source, and the crossing point from enlisted soldier to naval officer.
  • Naval Flight School Aviation Preflight Indoctrination through advanced training, T-6 Texan II.
  • SERE Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. Required for aircrew operating where recovery is not assumed.
  • EP-3E fleet qualification Type qualification on the Navy's primary manned airborne EW and ISR platform.
  • EW Aircraft Commander Final authority for aircraft and crew.
  • Mission Commander Directing integrated flight and mission crews on multinational operations.
  • Flight Instructor T-6 instructor pilot, primary training pipeline.
  • NATOPS Instructor & Evaluator Check Pilot, the qualification that certifies other aviators.

Developing people

Certifying that someone is ready.

The same competency keeps reappearing in my record under different titles: deciding, on evidence, whether a person or a thing is ready to go. It is the part of management that does not delegate.

T-6 Instructor Pilot Naval flight training

Trained roughly 100 student aviators through the primary training pipeline.

NATOPS Instructor & Evaluator Check Pilot

Evaluated other qualified aviators against the standard. The role that signs off, or does not, when the answer is unpopular.

Director of Education & Operations Simply Coding

Built technology education programs, their infrastructure, and a three-tier certification program from nothing.

Continuing

Still self-taught in the parts that move fastest.

  • Power BI & DAX
  • SQL
  • Python
  • Azure DevOps
  • GitLab
  • Jira
  • CI/CD & release engineering
  • LLM workflow automation
  • Risk & dependency modeling
